When R1100S was built it was BMWs idea of a sport bike.

Seems to me that the 95 - 00 BMW R1100R and R1100RT bikes are under appreciated. I had one on an Alps tour a few years ago and it was a great bike for carving the mountain passes. BMWSportTouring is for riders who enjoy getting out on the road.
It was built based on BMWs venerable R1100 Oilhead Boxer twin cylinder engine but it was tuned for performance more than other models - better handling more power and stiffer chassis set it apart from the rest of the boxer bunch. I have one of the custom longer-spline input shafts made by an R1100S enthusiast and a longer-spline clutch plate from BMW Boneyard but somebody on. I had a 2000 R1100R for a couple of years. Looks like my luck ran out just after 77777 miles -- fortunately only 200 yards from home and downhill back to my garage.

R1100S was in production from 1998 to 2004. The BMW R1100S isnt going to radically change sportsbike riders perception of Beemers overnight but its actually a pretty capable track bike. We have the most accurate technical and repair information on 1100 1150 and early 1200 series BMWRT and GS.

Lining up in the fast group of the trackday waiting to go out on track I was a bit unsure on how the BMW would get on. Just picked up a 2005 with 19K miles and BMW system cases. Always loved the look of the R1100S but didnt have the roads in Iowa to merit owning this motorcycle.
